Juan Soria was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and grew up in the Buceo neighborhood. He has 11 children and is 60 years old. He currently lives in the Placido Ellauri neighborhood, Montevideo, Uruguay.
He started working at the fair since he was a child, trying also to continue studying. Then he started working with a neighboring electrician. With him he learned the job. Later he went into construction and when he left the construction site, he sorted garbage.
In the 90’s he meets Father Cacho*, someone who will be transcendental in his life, transmitting political and social values and mainly about cooperativism.
He has been sorting for 30 years and now works as a cooperative sorter. “Ahora se puede”, is the cooperative to which he belongs and of which he is the founder. In 2002 he created the “ Syndicate of Sorters ”, U.C.R.U.S. (Unión de Clasificadores de Residuos Urbanos Sólidos) with a few neighbors in the area.

Juan Soria nació en Montevideo y se crio en el barrio Buceo. Tiene 11 hijos y 60 años. Actualmente vive en el barrio Placido Ellauri, Montevideo, Uruguay.
Comenzó a trabajar en la feria desde chico, tratando también de continuar estudiando. Luego empezó a trabajar con un vecino electricista. Con él aprende el oficio. Posteriormente entra en la construcción y cuando salía de la obra, clasificaba basura.
Por los años 90 conoce al Padre Cacho*, alguien que va ser trascendental en su vida, trasmitiéndoles valores políticos, sociales y principalmente sobre cooperativismo.
Hace 30 años que se dedica a la clasificación, actualmente trabaja de clasificador cooperativizado. “Ahora se puede”, es la cooperativa a la que pertenece y de la cual es fundador. En el 2002 crea el “Sindicato de Clasificadores”, U.C.R.U.S. (Unión de Clasificadores de Residuos Urbanos Sólidos) con unos cuantos vecinos de la zona.
